Muhammad Yunus, Mentor

Muhammad Yunus, a native of Bangladesh, was educated at Dhaka University and was awarded a Fulbright scholarship to study economics at Vanderbilt University. in 1972 he became head of the economics departement at Chittagong University. He is the founder of Grameen Bank and father of microcredit, an economic movement that has helped lift millions of families around the world out of poverty. He is also the father of social business. Yunus and Grameen bank are winners of the 2006 Nobel Peace Prize, and Yunus won the Presidential Medal of Freedom in 2009 and the Congressional Gold Medal 2013.

Federica Bandini, Research *

Federica Bandini is Director of Master of science in Management for Social Economy at the University of Bologna and Associate Professor of Social enterprise Management and Accounting at the same University. She is Senior Professor at Bocconi School of Management. She earned an ITP at London Business School, and PHD in Management for public and nonprofit organizations at University of Parma. She has been the Director of Master of Social enterprise and NGO at Bocconi School of Management. Her main research interests are on change management, social impact and business administration studies.


Andrea Bassi, Research

Andrea Bassi (PhD in Sociology and Social Policy) is Associate Professor of Sociology at Bologna University. He teaches: “General Sociology”, “Social Justice and Equity Studies” and “Sociology of Nonprofit Organizations” “Quantitative Methods for Social Research”.His research interests include: studies on nonprofit organizations in the field of social and health services, particularly concerning the relationships between public administration and nonprofit deliverers; and systems of measurement of organizational performance and social impact of nonprofit organizations.


Leonardo Boni, Research

Leonardo Boni graduated at Bocconi University in Economics and Management of Innovation and Technology (EMIT) in 2014 and obtained a major in Green Management and Sustainability. He worked as analyst at Climate Policy Initiative (CPI), a consulting and research company in San Francisco, contributing to publish three papers related to geothermal energy, energy savings insurance and climate finance mobilisation. In his PhD research, he is working on hybrid organizations, exploring the context of the B Corp movement and that of impact investing organizations.


Daniela Bolzani, research

Daniela Bolzani is Senior Assistant Professor in management at the University of Bologna since March 2020. Her main research interests regard the multi-level antecedents and processes of entrepreneurship, especially in the contexts of international, academic, social, and immigrant business. After receiving her Ph.D. in General Management in 2013, she worked as a post-doctoral fellow in European projects in the domain of entrepreneurship and technology transfer. She was Assistant Professor in management at the Università Cattolica del Sacro Cuore in Milan (Italy) (2017-2020). She has been a visiting scholar at the Leeds School of Business, University of Colorado at Boulder – USA, and at HEC Paris – France. Before starting her Ph.D., Daniela worked as a professional for around five years in the fields of financial audit and international development in Europe and Africa.


Paola Brighi, Research

Paola Brighi is Professor of Banking and Finance in the Department of Management of the University of Bologna, Italy. She obtained her MA from the University of Louvain-la-Neuve and her PhD from the University of Ancona. She has been a visiting scholar at the University of Wisconsin. She is the author of several articles in leading academic journals. Research interests relate to banking structure, relationship lending, bank geographic diversification, efficiency, cooperative banks, and SME finance.

Giulio Ecchia, Research *

Giulio Ecchia is Professor of Economics at the University of Bologna, director of Master in International Management (MIEX)  and Professorial Lecturer in Economics, SAIS Europe, Bologna. In 1990 he received his Ph.D. in Economics from Catholic University of Milan, from 2002 he became member of the scientific committee of AICCON and from 2003 member of the scientific committee of Social Enterprise. His research interests include the economics of cooperative firms and social enterprises, corporate governance and stakeholder theory and the economics of regulation.


Magalì Fia, Research

Magalì is a post-doctoral researcher at University of Bologna and member of the Yunus Social Business Center of the University of Bologna. Her researches and publications cover business ethics topics, the governance of traditional and social enterprises, universities and innovation policies, and include theoretical and empirical works. She also carries out research activities and follows projects with public and private institutions on research and innovation policies, social innovation policies, and public policy evaluation with a focus on social impact issues and the relationship between governance and performance. She taught the social innovation course at the executive master in Sustainability and Business Innovation of the Bologna Business School (BBS) and within the social innovation course and in the advanced master in innovation and entrepreneurship of the Politecnico of Milan. Rosa Grimaldi, Research

Rosa Grimaldi is professor of Entrepreneurship and Innovation Management at the University of Bologna, Department of Management. At the University of Bologna she is serving as Vice Rector for Entrepreneurship and relations with companies, since 2015. She is the Director of the Executive Master in Technology and Innovation Management (EMTIM) at BBS (Bologna Business School). Most of her scientific production is about New Business Creation, Entrepreneurship, and Technology Transfer. On these topics she has publications on national and international journals.


Valerio Melandri, Research

Valerio Melandri is Professor of Fundraising and Director of the Post-Graduate Master in Fundraising at the University of Bologna, Adjunct Professor of Fundraising at Columbia University, pioneer in the introduction of the discipline of "fundraising" into Italian universities (Melandri was the first professor to have taught it in a degree program) and one of the leading authorities in the field of Italian fundraising. He is founder and president of the Philanthropy Research Centre. His main research interests are on non-profit performance, social marketing and fundraising accountability.


Maurizio Mussoni, Research

Maurizio Mussoni is Assistant Professor of Economics at the Alma Mater Studiorum-University of Bologna, Rimini Campus, Department of Management, School of Economics, Management and Statistics, where he teaches Competition and Regulation Economics, Tourism Microeconomics and Banking Transparency and Compliance. He has a Ph.D. in Law and Economics at the University of Bologna and a M.Sc. in Economics at the University of Leuven (Belgium). His research interests are mainly on: social capital and economic development, microcredit, ethical finance and civil economics, economics and reciprocity.


Marcello Russo, Research *

Marcello Russo is Senior Assistant Professor of Organization and Human Resource Management at University of Bologna, Italy and Visiting Scholar at Kedge Business School, France. He is Associate Editor for Journal of Vocational Behavior since April 2018. He is co-Director of the Master in Human Resource and Organization and HR Executive Program at Bologna Business School, Italy. He earned a Ph.D. at University Parthenope of Naples, and he has been a visiting scholar at Teachers College, Columbia University, New York City, USA. His main researchs focuses on the analysis of factors that can affect employees' behaviour.


Irene Sala, Research

Irene Sala is a Ph.D. candidate in Management at the University of Bologna. She graduated at Milano-Bicocca University in Economic and Social Disciplines in 2007 and obtained a major in Economics and Management of Co-operative Companies and Non-profit Organizations at the University of Bologna in 2009. She worked as project manager assistant at Italian NGOs with a focus on international cooperation and social change. She is also administrative assistant at the University of Bologna. Her main research interest is on strategic management of multi-actor cross-sector partnerships addressing social issues.


Alceste Santuari, Research *

Alceste Santuari is currently Senior Lecturer of Law & Economics, Non-Profit Law and International Law & Health at the University of Bologna and visiting lecturer at the MCI (Management Centre Innsbruck). He received his Ph.D. in Comparative Company Law in 1993. In 2015 he has been visiting scholar at the University of Sheffield. His main research interests are on Legal, organisational and comparative aspects of Non-profit organisations, health and social care services, public authorities.


Maurizio Sobrero, Research *

Maurizio Sobrero, PhD MIT, BS Università di Bologna, is Professor of Technology and Innovation Management at the University of Bologna. He is the author of over 30 peer reviewed articles and 5 books in the Economics and Management of Innovation, with a specific focus on inter-organizational collaborations, University-Industry relationships, corporate governance and R&D investments. He has served as an expert in these matters in several Committees of different public, private and government institutions.


Massimo Spisni, Research *

Massimo Spisni is Professor of Corporate Finance at the University of Bologna. He received his MBA in Business Administration from the SDA Bocconi Business School. From 1989 to 1990 he has been visiting scholar at the Stern School of Business, New York University. He has been in 1994 professor of International Business Management in Bologna and in 1996 professor of International Finance in Buenos Aires. His main research interests are on International Business and Finance, International Banking, Corporate Finance and Applied Economics.


Laura Toschi, Research *

Laura Toschi is Assistant Professor in Entrepreneurship and Innovation at the University of Bologna. She received her Ph.D. in Management from the University of Bologna. In 2008, she has been visiting scholar at the Boston University in the United States, from 2011 to 2013 she has been Research Fellow at the Science Policy Research Unit (SPRU), University of Sussex in the UK and in 2017 she has been visiting professor at the University of Queensland in Australia. Her main research interests are on the role of Venture Capital and Corporate Venture Capital in sustaining entrepreneurship and social enterprises.

Claudio Travaglini is Full Professor of Accounting in Bologna University, Department of Management, University of Bologna. Visiting Professor at University of San Paolo (USP), Catholic University of Paranà and Minais Gerais (PUCPR e PUCMG). Member of scientific committee of Social Enterprise. He developed specific forms for financial statements for nonprofit enterprise adopted by public and professional bodies in Italy. His research interest is for financial and social accountability in nonprofit and social entities, the cooperation between third sector and public entities, social cooperation, and social enterprise.


Francesca Pallara

Francesca Pallara, Research

Francesca Pallara graduated at University of Bologna in Financial Markets and Institutions in 2016 and currently enrolled on a Second-level specializing master programme “Finance: Instruments, Markets and Sustainability”. She worked as consultant in financial and market risk management for insurance companies in Milan and is working as consultant in sustainable finance. In her research for University of Bologna, she focuses on impact finance and sustainable and responsible finance, analyzing the financial instruments characterizing these markets and the investment readiness of the social purpose organizations.

Eleonora Grassi, Research

Eleonora Grassi is a Ph.D. student in the Management track at the University of Bologna, where she carries on research about Social Innovation and Public Management. She holds a Master's degree in Social Economics and before joining the programme she worked for the Italian Sustainable Investment Forum. Her main research interests are related to social innovation and impact measurement.
