B Corps - The Role of Business in Achieving the Sustainable Development Goals in the Global South

In June 2020, the B Lab of the United States of America (USA), the group of B Academics, and the International Development Research Centre(IDRC) awarded the research team of the Yunus Social Business Centre in partnership with the Instituto Politecnico Nacional (IPN) of the CIty of Mexico, with fundings to conduct a research project within the Request For Proposal The Role of Business in Achieving the Sustainable Development Goals in the Global South.

Out of a total of 46 proposals from 148 researchers based in 29 countries around the world, the Yunus Social Business Centre's project entitled Breadth and depth strategies of B Corps in pursuing SDG. Learning from north and south secured financial support with other 3 universities in the world.

The project aims at mapping B Corps’ SDGs strategies through a breadth and depth framework. It proposes to highlight the extent to which B Corps’ contribute to achieving SDGs that are crucial for their countries, comparing B Corps’ SDGs strategies with the social and environmental threats occurring in the countries in which they are operating. To do this, we make a comparative analysis between developed “north” countries’ B Corps, and developing “south” countries’ B Corps, in order to provide dedicated policy implications of social and entrepreneurial relevance.

The report of the project will be delivered by the end of June 2021
