OBSERVATORY ON THE DEMAND FOR IMPACT CAPITAL

BACKGROUND AND GENERAL OBJECTIVE

The demand for Italian impact capital is characterized by very heterogeneous companies regarding legal form and sector, geographical area of intervention and type of impact generated (operational or product).

This market includes companies with a legal for-profit nature as legally recognized hybrids (Società Benefit, B Corp) and profit with purpose, as well as non-profit companies such as social enterprises (including social cooperatives).

The heterogeneity of demand has raised the importance of creating an observatory that is able to monitor the current characteristics and future developments of these companies over time, also with the aim of verifying the role of impact investors in their growth.

WHAT WE DID

Through interviews and surveys repeated annually and databases (among others, Aida and the Chamber of Commerce), the YSBC analyzes the characteristics of the demand for impact capital with the aim of establishing an Italian observatory that focuses on companies that produce social, environmental and / or cultural impact and to carry out analyzes that may be functional to:

  • conduct a structured comparison between the Italian and European cases;
  • analyze the behavior of these companies also with reference to investors.
